Esa Palosaari joins Vuono Group
Meet another member of our team, Esa. He is a seasoned researcher and data scientist whose expertise spans the realms of human behaviour, economics, and computer science. At Vuono Group, his work includes developing reliable data pipelines, explainable models, and tools for analysts.
With a B.A. in History, M.Sc. in Economics, a doctorate in Psychology, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science, Esa is currently on study leave, finishing his Master's Thesis in Computer Science at Aalto University. He has worked for over a decade as a researcher at Tampere University and Aalto University, conducting studies with psychologists, economists, political scientists, and computer scientists.
“My academic work relates to human behaviour and the quantitative methods used to explain and predict it. I have studied decisions, cognitions, and emotions in different contexts, from the laboratory to social media, stock markets, and wars. During the last decade I have paid particular attention to replicability, workflows, and correct interpretation of statistics in science,” Esa describes his extensive academic history.
For the past three years, Esa has worked as a data scientist and backend software developer. The core of his work as a consultant has been similar to working with data in academic research with the addition of cloud infrastructure and automation.
Esa finds satisfaction in the challenges inherent to his work. His favourite aspect is the problem-solving process, where each obstacle overcome adds to the fulfilment he derives from his profession.
“Esa is skilled at combining his deep understanding of people, business and technology in his work. He has a hard-working attitude, and he is an excellent communicator and listener," says Teemu Moisala, Founder at Vuono Group.
With a wealth of knowledge, what might be the most recent thing Esa has familiarised himself with?
“I learned how the combination of neural and symbolic systems can work together to create proofs in geometry at the level of mathematics olympiad medallists (AlphaGeometry). I am generally interested in the interplay between neural and symbolic artificial intelligence and the possibility of the emergence of symbolic reasoning from sub-symbolic neural networks,” Esa says.
Outside the professional sphere, Esa participates in a reading group that delves into the history and philosophy of mathematics and science. Additionally, you might catch him snowboarding, climbing, or running during his leisure time.
