Re-engineering IoT architecture results in over 80% OPEX savings and improved scalability

LeaseGreen, a company aiding large property owners in energy cost optimisation, faced escalating operational costs and rigidity in their existing IoT architecture. Collaborating with Vuono Group, they transitioned to a cloud-based solution, resulting in over 80% OPEX savings and enhanced scalability.

Background & Need

LeaseGreen helps large property owners optimise their energy costs. The most significant part of their customer promise is the ability to track, react to and report energy consumption development.

For scalable operation, LeaseGreen resorts to a software solution that gathers data from building automation systems and external sources and analyses progress in efficiency improvements and cost savings.

The total cost of maintaining the old software had become excessively high, and the system was no longer flexible enough for further development. This was due in part to knowledge attrition resulting from frequent changes in the development team.

Our Approach and Solution

  • First, Vuono Group audited the old solution and concluded that refactoring the existing setup would be too costly. Instead, a new, cleaner, cloud-based architecture design was proposed to replace the old solution.

  • The heavy custom-built solution was replaced with a much more streamlined solution built in Azure’s cloud-native environment. Improved data architecture design has cut data storing costs significantly.

  • The system configuration UI was built using the Power Apps low-code platform, and the presentation layer is Power BI-based. This solution allows fast configuration and flexible reports that better serve LeaseGreen’s customers.

What’s Next?

  • The new solution will also support new data sources for future needs. For example, together with Nobody Engineering, we enabled analysing data from building automation systems without the need to install or change hardware.

  • Vuono Group provides continuous care service for LeaseGreen to guarantee that their customers get data-driven energy optimisation service now and in the future.

  • New features can be implemented quickly by request, one by one.

“Vuono Group had a very business-driven approach since day one by analysing our problem first and developing an efficient solution. Their deep technical expertise and hands-on approach helped us to improve our business case, launch a complex solution on a rapid schedule and ensure better energy insights for our customers while significantly reducing operational costs.”
